First Woman Makes WSOP Main Event Final Table Since 1995
Nine players remain on the final table of the 2025 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event. Leo Margets, one of them, is the first woman to be seated there in thirty years.
When the Main Event returns on Tuesday, Spanish poker pro Margets broke through a field of 9,735 players to take fifth place in total chips. It's a certain that all nine participants will leave with at least $1 million.
“It’s so unreal,” Margets said in an interview with PokerGO. “Right now, it’s like a dream. It means so much, like how lucky I am to live this.”
Since 1995, when Barbara Enright became the first woman in tournament history to reach the final nine, Margets is the first woman to do so. In 1995, Enright earned $114,180 for placing fifth.
She's Got the Nuts
Leonor Margets was born in Barcelona. The skilled poker pro, who became a reality TV sensation 41 years ago, is also a writer, motivational speaker, and strategic adviser.
In 2007, Margets went on a date with an ex-boyfriend who took her to a local Sit & Go game, which is how she first learned about poker. She was a casual spectator at first, but the strategic and psychological intricacy of the game captured her attention.
Following early victories, Margets left the talent management firm International Management Group to pursue a career in professional poker after receiving a master's degree in management and communications from the IE Business School in Madrid.
She won the University Poker Championship in Barcelona in 2008, just one year after she started playing, and 888poker sponsored her.
She made her poker debut at the 2009 WSOP Main Event, where she earned $352,832 and the title of Last Woman Standing after placing 27th out of over 6,500 players. Her accomplishment at the age of 26 made her a budding star.
Margets earned $376,850 in 2021 after winning her first WSOP bracelet in Event #83: $1,500 The Closer. She became the only woman to win an open event at that year's WSOP after defeating Alex Kulev head-to-head in a field of 1,903 competitors.
In the same year, she and Adrián Mateos, another Winamax partner, were inducted into the Spanish Poker Hall of Fame.
According to the Hendon Mob Poker Database, she is one of Spain's top poker players with over $2 million in live event earnings and 121 confirmed cashes.

A successful writer and media figure, Beyond the Felt Margets has authored or co-authored three books. Her most recent work, which was released in 2017, examines the application of mathematical and psychological concepts from poker to business and life decision-making.
She regularly gives talks at conferences and seminars, focusing on risk management, personal development, and resilience.
Margets is a reality TV personality as well. She participated in "Supervivientes," the Spanish version of "Survivor," in 2014, and she and boxer Joana Pastrana won the inaugural season of "Traitors España" in 2023.
It goes without saying that if Margets wins the Main Event bracelet and the $10 million first-place prize, she will make even more poker history than she has already.
